Introduction Following Cyprus’s entry into the euro area on 1 January 2008, a new set of money and banking statistics has been compiled by the Central Bank of Cyprus in order to be harmonised with the legal framework of the European Central Bank. As a result, the breakdowns and classifications of the above data conform with the corresponding statistics of all other euro area countries. In view of the above changes, the publication of the monthly “Monetary Survey” and the “Money, Banking and Other Financial Statistics”, has been discontinued, as from December 2007 and replaced by the new monthly “Monetary and Financial Statistics” publication (please refer to the link below). On 1 July 2008, as a result of the harmonisation process with the EU acquis communautaire, arising from Cyprus’s entry into the euro area, the new “Definition of the term “resident of Cyprus” for Statistical Purposes Directive of 2008” came into force. See also “Announcement” in the introductory page under Statistics. As from September 2009, a new enriched version of the “Monetary and Financial Statistics” publication has been released which is compatible with the ECB methodology on the calculation of the annual growth rates.
